Upcoming Webinar 23rd of October 2024

It is becoming increasingly important to develop an alternative for maritime fuels in the shipping sector, as shipping today is mainly powered by diesel engines using heavy fuel oil and accounts for around 3-4 % of total EU greenhouse gas emissions. The IMO (International Maritime Organisation), with the ambition of the first GHG strategy, has set a target of reducing carbon intensity by 70 % by 2050, but to achieve such a target it is important to drive the change, not only from a technical perspective, but also by raising public awareness and share knowledge.

The M²ARE project is organising a public webinar on 23th of October entitled “Mapping the Availability, Locations and Quality of bio-CO2 Streams in Europe” to present the challenges and opportunities of using biogenic CO2 streams in Europe for the production of methanol as a sustainable marine fuel. The webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the characteristics of different sources of the new feedstock, which will be crucial for achieving the suitability targets. The webinar will be followed by a Q&A session to allow for an exchange with the researchers.
